CHIPPING Sodbury’s female rugby team are swapping the pitch for the pavement as they embark on a charity sponsored walk next weekend.

Members of Chipping Sodbury RFC’s ladies team will walk 12 miles from Bristol on Sunday, January 5 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team will be dressed in their playing kit or fancy dress for the sponsored walk which they hope will raise at least £1,000.

Naomi Iles, who is organising the event, said: “The walk is in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and all monies raised go to the charity which is very close to all of our hearts.

“Our initial goal is to raise £1,000 but we would like to aim much higher. We have already made half way with online donations and collections so we are now counting on individual sponsorships and Macmillan collection buckets which can be found in the local area and will be carried on the walk.”

The walkers will meet outside the Bristol Hippodrome, on St Augustine’s Parade, at 9.30am and will then walk back through the city towards Frenchay and back to Chipping Sodbury.

Everyone is welcome to join the team for the event.

Added Naomi: “Everyone and anyone is welcome to join in and get involved.

“Some of the team members will be wearing their rugby kit, some in Macmillan T shirts and others in fancy dress.

“Anything goes, we would just like to spread the word to make this a success. The walk is over 12 miles long but every step will be worth it if we can raise some cash for an amazing cause which is so close to so many of our hearts.”
