RECORD crowds turned out to see a model railway club’s 30th anniversary display in Yate.

More than 700 people attended the milestone event at St Mary’s Church on Saturday (February 1), at least 100 people more than last year.

“The numbers were definitely up on last year and we certainly had more children come, which is what we wanted,” said show secretary Tim Crockford.

“It went really well and we are very pleased. We have had a lot of positive comments from people who visited.”

The main attraction was a model of Wickwar during the 1950s by Farnham Model Railway Club.

Added Mr Crockford: “The display was well received and the club learned a lot about the details of what Wickwar looked like then from local people.

“It was an excellent event and a fitting way to mark our 30th anniversary.”
