AN annual classic car run which starts in Chipping Sodbury is now open for entries.

The event will this year take place on Sunday, June 29 but organisers want owners of classic and vintage vehicles to sign up to take part as soon as possible.

Starting in Broad Street, the 19th annual run will finish in the Severn Valley with the 80-mile route taking in some of Gloucestershire’s most stunning scenery The run is open to pre-1989 cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles. Organisers hope to at least match the 2013 run, which attracted a record 200 entrants and raised £10,000 for charitable causes.

It is organised by Chipping Sodbury Rotary Club and the start is watched by hundreds of residents and local dignitaries including the mayor of the town, who traditionally starts the event.

Organiser and Rotarian Mark Benstock said: “Participants are encouraged to wear period costume with an award presented to the entrants judged most appropriately dressed for the period of their vehicles.

“Feedback after each event is always encouraging and one of last year’s entrants said it was a ‘well planned and signed route through lovely countryside with well organised breaks for coffee and lunch made for a most enjoyable day for all participants’.

“Since 1996 the club have raised over £90,000 with all proceeds donated to various charities including the RNLI.”

Any owner wishing to participate should contact the Rotary club for an entry form on 01454 311 712 or by email at rotary.classic.run@hotmail.co.uk
