GUIDING in Wotton is getting a boost with the establishment of a new group for older teens.

The Senior Section club will enable 14 to 18-year-old girls in the area to continue with their Girlguiding activities and will offer exciting challenges such as camping and trips away.

Sarah Cocker, leader of the linked Guide unit, said: “This is a very exciting time for Girlguiding in Wotton, as we are now expanding to cater for girls over 14.

“We are looking to make the unit as exciting as possible, giving the Guides an opportunity to carry experiencing the fun in the local area, as well as inviting girls who have not yet experienced the fun and friendship of Girlguiding to come and join in.”

Girlguiding is the country’s leading charity for girls and young women, with over 500,000 members.

Run by volunteers, the charity offers three other groups – Rainbows for ages five to seven years, Brownies for seven to 10 and Guides for 10 to 14-year-olds.

The Senior Section will meet in the United Church Hall, Wotton-under-Edge, every other Thursday evening from 7.30pm to 9pm, with the first meeting planned for the week after February half term.
