YOUNG readers at Chipping Sodbury Library on Saturday were delighted as stories were brought to life with a visit from a favourite book character.

The Gruffalo, a half grizzly bear, half buffalo created by children’s author Julia Donaldson, dropped in to meet his fans as part of National Library Day.

Around 60 youngsters packed into the library hear stories read by library staff and meet the Gruffalo.

Librarian Neil Weston said: “We were very pleased with the response at Chipping Sodbury Library and hope that lots of these children will now make regular use of the service there.

“The Gruffalo also appeared at Yate Library where around 100 children came to see him, again to listen to stories and lots had their photos taken with him.

"There were also coffee mornings in both libraries on Saturday and author Maria McCann spoke at Yate Library as well, all part of National Library Day.”
