MACMILLAN Cancer Support is sending its mobile service to Yate this week.

Experts will be on hand this Wednesday, February 19 (10am-4pm) in North Walk, Yate Shopping Centre to offer advice and support and answer any questions.

Advisors will be spreading Macmillan’s message to people living with cancer to get physically active tp improve their quality of life.

The charity says being active during and after treatment can help manage and prevent side effects of cancer treatment such as tiredness, pain, stress and anxiety. It can also help look after bones, patients’ hearts and keep weight at a healthy level.

Michelle Smith, a Macmillan information and support specialist on the mobile unit, said: “Macmillan’s ‘Move More’ report has shown just how important physical activity is to the recovery and long term health of cancer patients.

“There is also some evidence to show that being active at the recommended levels and maintaining a healthy weight can reduce the risk of some cancers progressing or coming back.”

Over 7,300 people in Bristol, Bath and Somerset receive a cancer diagnosis every year, and each of these people require support. By 2030, the number of people living with and beyond cancer in Bristol, Bath and Somerset will fill Bristol City’s football stadium over four times.

Our five mobile information units travel around the UK visiting local communities, providing cancer information and advice on the ground. Last year they helped over 60,000 people in over 500 locations across the UK.
