A £1 MILLION development could be on the cards for Cromhall.

A 1.53 acre site in the centre of the South Gloucestershire village has been put on the market.

It is being sold by property agents David James and Partners in Old Sodbury.

A planning application, lodged by Pye Homes Group in February last year, for the construction of 11 houses on the site is still pending a decision by South Gloucestershire Council.

The proposed residential development would consist of a mix of two, three and four-bedroom detatched, semi-detached and terraced homes in The Burltons.

A council spokesman said: “The application is due to be granted, subject to the signing of a Section 106 legal agreement. It is hoped that the Section 106 will be signed and the decision notice issued by the end of the month.”

The Section 106 agreement is a mechanism which makes a development proposal acceptable in planning terms, that would not otherwise be acceptable.

The development at Cromhall requires a contribution of £131,000 by any future developer to local services to secure planning.

Residents strongly objected to the planning application when it was initially lodged fearing to would turn the village into “a concrete township on the M5”.

Two further developments had already been approved for the village, one on the site of the village shop and one on the green field site near Ducie Close, directly across the Bristol Road from the The Burltons site.

Locals felt there was already adequate housing provision in the village.

They feared the site at the heart of the village would be cramped and totally out of character with the rest of the village and the construction of houses would damage the very fabric of this semi-rural community.

A decision on the planning application is expected in the coming weeks.
