TALENTED young snappers from Kingswood beat off stiff competition to be crowned the county's best photographers.

Kingswood Primary School pupils got first and second place in the Cheltenham Camera Club’s coveted Gloucestershire Young Photographer competition.

The school was also awarded the Best School prize out of 201 entries from 22 schools.

Anna Symanowski, 11, won the top prize for her atmospheric shot of a dog walker entitled Man’s Best Friend. As well as being crowned Gloucestershire Young Photographer of 2014, the year 6 pupil also won £50.

Second prize went to fellow year 6 student Alex Gunton, 10, for his sporting shot called The Grand Final.

Year 5 pupils also shone, with Hannah Bigwood, 9, Highly Commended for her entry of Swan at Sunset and Sammy Green, 9, also having his photograph shortlisted.

Their work is now on show in Cheltenham along with the winning photographs in the secondary school category.

The Young Photographer competition garnered 565 entries from 47 schools, or which 137 photographs were accepted for display and just 29 won awards.

The exhibition is open at All Saints Church on All Saints Road in Cheltenham until Sunday, March 9, 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 1pm to 5pm on Sundays.

It then moves to The Curve Gallery at Churchdown School Academy from Tuesday, April 22 until Friday, May 23.
