THE votes have been cast, the results are in and the Gazette can officially reveal the outcome of a public consultation held in Thornbury last week.

It has been confirmed that children in the area will have an exciting new water park at Mundy Playing Fields to splash around in for the summer.

Nearly 400 people gave feedback during a week-long public consultation organised by Thornbury Town Council which closed on Tuesday, February 18.

The votes were counted and official figures were released by the council at a meeting of the Playing Fields and Cemetery Committee on Thursday night, February 20.

A total of 286 voted in favour of the new water park while 94 expressed a preference in restoring the existing paddling pool, making it 3:1 in favour of the change.

Committee chairman Cllr Clive Parkinson told the Gazette: “The consultation went very well. Almost 400 people had their say. The committee discussed this and agreed that they would pursue the water park option based on what the public wanted."

The council are currently in the process of getting together documents needed to obtain quotes from different companies.
