YATE Leisure Centre will celebrate 40 years of keeping people fit next week.
The centre was opened on March 9, 1974.
A celebration for staff will take place on Friday, March 7 when a special cake will be cut to mark the anniversary.
For the public, the centre is hosting an open day on Sunday, March 9 (12noon onwards) when there will be a free programme of fun events for all the family.
Swimming will cost just 20 pence, the price it would have done in 1974, and funds raised will go to the British Heart Foundation. The main hall will be full of fun activities for children and further events are being planned.
