A WOMAN stole £479 worth of electrical items from the Asda store in Quedgeley, a court heard.

Anna Herbert, 32, of Prestwick Road, Quedgeley, admitted stealing two televisions, a kettle, toaster, pannini machine, hoover, DVD player, portable DVD player, George Foreman grill, an iron and two coats from the supermarket on January 12.

She was given a 12 month community order with supervision when she appeared at Stroud Magistrates' Court on Monday, March 10.

"The manager of the supermarket noticed that two televisions were missing and checked CCTV footage," said Kathryn Jenkins, prosecuting.

"It showed Ms Herbert entering the store around 10.30am.

"She put one TV into a trolley along with other electrical items and walked out of the store without paying.

"She then went back into the store with an empty trolley and repeated the exercise."

Some items were recovered by police but others were given away to be sold, the court heard.

Defending herself, Herbert said: "I had a drug addiction going back a year ago and everything has led on from that.

"There were other issues such as my benefits stopping so I had no money.
