AN Avon and Somerset police officer will face misconduct proceedings after it was alleged he used excessive force on a teenage boy.
The constabulary has confirmed that PC Gregory Macrae will be subject to a misconduct hearing following the incident in Bristol on Saturday, June 22 2013.
PC Macrae is accused of using excessive force when he stopped and searched a 13-year-old boy in Bristol.
The matter was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service who decided that there was insufficient evidence to charge the officer with any criminal offences. The Professional Standards Department has now decided that PC Macrae will attend a misconduct hearing.
Superintendent Paul Richards, head of professional standards, has visited the victim’s mother today to inform her of the decision to take disciplinary action against the officer involved.
Misconduct hearings are chaired by a senior officer from the force's chief officer team. The sanctions available to them, if they find that gross misconduct is proven, range from words of advice to dismissal without notice.
