FIVE men have been handed out football banning orders totalling 19 years after disturbances between Bristol City and Bristol Rovers.

The FBOs were issued at Bristol Crown Court yesterday (Friday March 14) and follow the police investigation into the disturbances on September 4 last year when Bristol City and Bristol Rovers played in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy match.

Shaun Coles, aged 21 of Canberra Grove, Filton, admitted violent disorder and was jailed for 20 months, as well as an additional six months imprisonment (from a suspended prison sentence from July 2013) which will run consecutively.

He was given a six-year football banning order.

Richard Sperring, aged 27 of Rodborough Way, Kingswood, admitted violent disorder and was jailed for 20 months, suspended for two years, as well as being ordered to do 300 hours of unpaid work. He was also given a four year FBO.

Ryan Greenslade, aged 41, of Cuffington Avenue, Bristol, also admitted violent disorder and was jailed for 18 months, suspended for two years.

He also admitted assaulting a police officer and was sentenced for a further three months imprisonment, suspended for two years, which will run concurrently with the previous term.

He was issued with a three year FBO.

Todd Brunt, aged 24 of Gifford Crescent, Little Stoke, was jailed for 18 months (suspended for two years) and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work after admitting violent disorder.

Lewis Booy, aged 21 of Brockley Close, Little Stoke, also admitted violent disorder and was jailed for 18 months (suspended for two years) and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.

He was issued with a three year FBO. DC Martin Davies of Bristol CID said: “We hope the decision of the court today sends out a strong message that any form of anti-social or violent behaviour will not be tolerated at football games in the Avon and Somerset force area and we will seek to bring offenders before the courts.”
