A THORNBURY chef has been invited to cook at a prestigious celebrity charity event in London.

Romy Gill, the owner of restaurant and catering firm Romy's Kitchen, will be cooking alongside Atul Kochhar at the end of the month.

She opened her Castle Street restaurant last September and became the UK’s first female Indian chef-owner.

Romy's Kitchen is also a fully functioning catering company and cookery school with its own range of condiments and mouth-watering sauces, which has run since 2008.

The talented cook has been invited to by celebrity chef Atul Kochhar to cook alongside him at his London restaurant Benares for the Indian Divas Gala Evening on Tuesday, March 25.

Mr Kochhar was the first Indian chef to receive a Michelin star and he regularly appears on television shows like Masterchef, Great British Menu and Saturday Kitchen.

Mrs Gill said: “I am thrilled to have been chosen to cook at this prestigious event. Cooking at Benares gives me the chance to take my own brand of healthy, authentic Indian cuisine to a completely new audience, and raise money for a very worthy cause while doing so.”

The gala event is to raise money for the first Indian not-for-profit risk capital fund investing in young entrepreneurs living in poverty, giving them the chance to start sustainable enterprises that solve local problems, create jobs and generate income.

It rounds off a successful March for the Thornburian, who has this month been chosen to take part in a three-week pop-up restaurant event in Bristol this summer.

She will be one of the guest chefs at the Eat Drink Bristol Fashion event, set in a tipi in Queen Square.

She is also one of five shortlisted in the inaugural Bristol and Bath Women in Business Awards in the Woman of the Year category.
