FIREFIGHTERS helped to rescue a five-year-old mare stuck in a ditch in Pilning.
The animal, named Polly, had become trapped in a water field ditch on Greenditch Street at 8.30pm on Friday (March 21).
Crews from Patchway, Avonmouth and Bedminster attended the incident where they liaised with an equine vet, farmer and the owner of the horse.
Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Martin Bolt said: “Firefighters graded the bank and utilised the farmer’s machinery and a line to lead the horse to safety.”
He said after a thorough inspection, the animal showed no signs of injury and was left in the hand of the vet.
