GREEN-fingered enthusiasts descended on Thornbury for the horticultural society’s spring show.

Armstrong Hall was filled with spring flowers and plants in full bloom and smelling delicious as the group enjoyed several hundred visitors throughout the day.

There was a big increase in entries throughout the show and all the daffodils classes were hotly contested with some high quality exhibits.

It ended in a race between two of the exhibitors vying for the top award of best award in show, with Sandra Grey eventually pipping Allan Jenner to the post by the smallest of margins, earning one more point than him.

As the event drew to a close, chairman of the Thornbury Horticultural Society Rex Davies congratulated the exhibitors and thanked all the helpers in making it a “fantastic show”.

There were 64 classes in all and 46 exhibitors and vice Ruth Kitson told the Gazette there was a steady stream of visitors throughout Saturday afternoon.
