OVER 220 seven to 11-year-old girls from primary schools across the Stroud district took part in the annual Len Hutton Millennium Trophy finals on Wednesday, March 2014 at Inside Football in Brimscombe.

Organised by Stroud District Council, 22 schools participated in the tournament with 63 games taking place during the afternoon.

The winners from each group Minchinhampton, Bussage, Bluecoat and Stroud Valley competed against each other in the semi finals.

The final was contested by Stroud Valley and Bussage with some great play by both teams, with Bussage finally coming out on top with a 3-0 win by the final whistle.

Sports development officer Hannah Drew said the level of football the girls played was beyond expectation with some fantastic goals and skills demonstrated.

“There are definitely some stars of the future in the district,” she said.

“It was fantastic to see so many girls taking part in football in one place.”

The trophy was supported by students from South Gloucestershire & Stroud College, who are studying a BTEC level 3 extended diploma in sport who acted as referees.

The trophy was also attended by Gloucestershire FA’s Women and Girls Football Development as well as two players from Bristol Academy who presented the students with their medals and certificates.
