A NEW service provider for HIV prevention and support for people living with HIV has been appointed in Gloucestershire.
People-centred services are the way forward as Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) signs a new contract for HIV prevention and provision of HIV support services in the county.
From April the Eddystone Trust will take over the services as the council’s Public Health team is bringing together several HIV related contracts which expire at the end of March 2014.
People will still be able to access support as before and will be able to drop in to the Eddystone Trust in Gloucester for peer support, pre and post test discussion and safer sex resources such as free condoms.
As well as the main base in Gloucester, the Eddystone Trust will be working throughout the whole county to deliver HIV prevention and services to people living with HIV in their own communities.
All existing clients have been informed of the new provider and they will have access to the same level of service as before.
Cabinet member for public health and communities Dorcas Binns said: “Last year we ran a competitive tender exercise for a new contract to provide HIV services.
“When we compared all the bids received, the Eddystone Trust’s stood out as they offer high quality support and value for money.
“They have more than 26 years experience of HIV prevention and supporting people living with HIV across the south west and I am confident they are the right provider to develop our HIV support to help those who need it.”
