TWO teachers have bid farewell to the Cam primary school they have worked at for a combined 46 years.

Headteacher Ian Dixon is set to revel in retirement after 21 years in the top job at Cam Everlands as prepares to move to Salisbury.

During his tenure at the school Mr Dixon, 59, said he had seen much more family involvement in their children’s education as well a large increase in the number of teaching assistants coming in to help.

The former deputy head of Cam Woodfields Junior School said he had enjoyed introducing children to PE and sport at school as well as in local clubs.

He added he had seen far more testing being introduced into the school, which he did not believe was a good thing.

Speaking to the Gazette, he said he was looking forward to his retirement.

“I have had a really enjoyable 21 years being head teacher here,” he said.

“It is a really engrossing job and I have really enjoyed teaching in the community I live in.

“The school community is very supportive and I would like to thank everybody for their help.”

The father-of-two is now looking forward to undertaking an archaeology degree, continue his cricket coaching and catch up on some reading.

Sharing Mr Dixon’s last day at the school on Friday, April 4 was year one teacher Caroline Muir, a veteran of 25-years experience.

The mother-of-two from Shipton Moyne has worked at the school since 1986 and for 17 years of that role worked in a job share with Kathryn Jackson, which she believes might be a record.

Mrs Muir, 55, said she had enjoyed taking the children on day trips and watch them progress through the school and has often taught parents of current pupils.

She told the Gazette she was looking to travelling in her VW campervan with her husband Graeme as well as doing more walks and gardening.

“It’s been very enjoyable. I have had some fantastic children and there’s a very good team of staff here,” she said.

“I am looking forward to the next step and spending more time with my family.”

She added that she wanted to thank her long-term colleague Ms Jackson for all the good years together.

Current deputy head at Hambrook School in South Gloucestershire, Craig Jones, is set to takeover as head teacher after Easter.
