BERKELEY’S historic home of the vaccination reopens with a flourish tomorrow.
Dr Jenner’s House and Garden starts its 2014 season with a day of special events on Sunday, April 6.
There is a free illustrated Old Cyder House talk at 2.30pm, where Dr Chris Burns-Cox will be speaking on, "What a Life! The Adventures of a Young Colonial Medical Officer in Borneo."
And visitors can enjoy watching archive films about smallpox and the museum in the Conference Room.
There will plenty of things to keep children entertained, with free house and garden trails for kids and a free prize quiz on the house, gardens and collections.
Tours of the Ghosts in the Attic exhibition will also be on offer – as well as afternoon teas in the Old Cyder House.
Visitor experience manager Simon Hobson said the team was really looking forward to opening for the new season.
“As Edward Jenner’s home in Berkeley for 38 years, and the site of all his famous discoveries and achievements, the birthplace of vaccination is a fantastic place to visit for all the family.
“The fascinating illustrated talk on Borneo in the afternoon will be quite something – and it’s free with admission.”
Dr Jenner’s House will be open from 12pm to 5pm (last admission at 4pm) and normal admission rates apply.
New season openings are as follows: 12pm to 5pm Sunday to Wednesday until the start of October. There will be some Saturday openings in July and August.
