FLOODING has occurred in Wickwar after a water mains burst – meaning part of the main road through the village will be closed for a few days.
Traffic is being directed via Rangeworthy and Iron Acton to avoid the flooded Sodbury Road after a twelve inch water mains pipe burst, pouring a thousand gallons of water a minute onto the street.
Two way traffic lights have now been installed as the operation to dig to the broken pipe and fix it get underway by Bristol Water.
A spokesman for South Gloucestershire Council on the scene said the worst case scenario would be that the road would be closed until Tuesday.
Several homes along the road saw their gardens flooded and motorists struggled to drive through the river running down the road towards Wickwar High Street as the drains soon overloaded from the excess water.
