A MAN suffered life-threatening injuries after a car collided with a telegraph pole on the A38 overnight.

The emergency services were called just before 3am today (Wednesday April 23) after a red Renault Clio left the carriageway as it was travelling towards the M50 in Twyning.

A 23-year-old man from Tewkesbury who was in the car was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and then transferred to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol with life threatening injuries.

A 20-year-old man from Tewkesbury also in the car was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but is believed to have minor injuries.

The road was closed while a serious collision investigation was carried out but reopened shortly before 8am.

Anyone who witnessed the collision who hasn't spoken to police is urged to call 101, quoting incident 35 of April 23.

A spokesman from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue said at 2:55am firefighters from Tewkesbury were called to a road traffic collision persons trapped near the A38 Brockeridge Roundabout, near Twyning.

"On arrival crews found two adult males involved in the collision. Both of the males were injured, one was extricated by the fire service and conveyed to hospital by ambulance, the second male was released before arrival of the fire service but also taken to hospital," he said.

"Crews were on scene for approximately one hour as crews also had to deal with power cables that had been affected in the incident. Crews made the area safe."
