POLICE investigating a series of car fires in Southmead are urging the community to come forward with information before someone gets seriously hurt.
In total, police and firefighters have been called to eight cars fires in the past three weeks. All of the vehicles were parked on their owners’ driveways at the time and are believed to have been set on fire deliberately.
The first incident happened on Thursday, April 3, on Greystoke Avenue and the most recent was last Saturday (April 19) on Charfield Road. All eight victims live in the area between Greystoke Avenue and Southmead Road except one, on Wellington Walk in Manor Farm.
Southmead Neighbourhood beat manager Lee Paterson said, “I’m genuinely concerned that if whoever’s behind this carries on, someone’s going to get seriously hurt.
“While it’s distressing enough for people to have their cars burnt out, the fact that some of them have been parked so close to their homes doesn’t bear thinking about.
“It’s incredibly wreckless and dangerous and we need the community to come forward and tell us who’s responsible.”
