A PUB just outside Berkeley has just received its third CAMRA award for its drinks and hospitality.

Despite only being in business 11 months at the time, the Salutation Inn has reaped the rewards of its hard work, earning the Campaign for Real Ale’s best pub in Gloucestershire award.

Peter Tiley and his wife Claire have impressed judges since they started the business in April last year, as they have won Dursley and District’s pub of the year as well as cider and perry pub of the year.

Peter, a former business analyst and Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School student, said they were blown away with how the first year had gone.

“It was enough of a shock to win the Dursley and district pub of the year, let alone the Gloucestershire one,” he said.

“There are a lot of fantastic real ale pubs around now so to be competing alongside some of those for the south west regional pub of the year is quite an honour really.”

The couple are looking to launch their own brewery on site plus start on several other projects in the coming months.

“We're going to be concentrating on those throughout 2014 and hopefully by next year the pub may be in a position to go even further in the competition,” said Peter.

“Ultimately though what's important to us is that the pub continues to act as a hub for the local community plus with some of our other projects we hope to help stimulate interest in food and drink production in the Berkeley area.”

The presentation evening was attended by CAMRA representatives from sub-branches across the county, with CAMRA of Gloucestershire chairman Andy Frape handing the couple their award.
