A MOTHER and her young daughter had a lucky escape after the car they were travelling in left the motorway.

The 22-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter were not injured in the incident, which happened on the southbound carriageway between junctions 14 (Falfield) and 15 (Almondsbury) just before 7pm yesterday (April 28).

Their silver Ford Ka left the motorway and went down a 50-foot embankment before coming to rest in deep undergrowth.

A police spokesman said: “The two occupants of the car, a 22-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter managed to escape from the vehicle and summon help from an emergency telephone.

“Both suffered only minor cuts and bruises but were taken to Frenchay Hospital for treatment and as a precaution.”

The police helicopter was scrambled and officers searched for occupants of the vehicle from the air.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and have launched an investigation into what happened but officers are not yet sure if another vehicle was involved.

If anyone saw what happened they are asked to contact PC Mark Lambert on 101.
