A SERIES of roadworks start today on the major roads in the area and are expected to last a week, causing delays and longer journey times.

Bristol

  • M5 Junction 15 Almondsbury Interchange: Communications Full overnight closure of the M5 South to M4 East, M4 East to M5 North and the M4 East to M5 South link roads will take place on Tuesday 13 May from 9pm until 6am the following morning. Diversions will be clearly signposted.
  • M5 Junction 15 Almondsbury Interchange: Communications Full overnight closure of the M4 West to M5 South and M4 West to M5 North link roads will take place on Wednesday 14 May from 9pm until 6am the following morning. Diversions will be clearly signposted.
  • M48 Severn Bridge: Structure Works The Westbound carriageway will be closed continuously from 9pm on Friday 16 May until 6am on Monday 19 May. Diversions will be clearly signposted.
  • A46 between Tormarton and Dyrham Park: Resurfacing Both carriageways will be closed overnight from Monday 12 May until Saturday 17 May between 8pm and 6am the following morning. Diversions will be clearly signposted.

Gloucestershire

  • M5 Junction 11a – Junction 12: Bridge repairs Narrow lanes with a width restriction of 5 metres, contraflows and speed restrictions will be in place during the day and occasional slip road and full carriageway closures will take place overnight. Work is expected to continue until June 2015.

The northbound carriageway, including the north bound entry slip at Junction 12 will be closed overnight from Friday 16 May until Sunday 18 May between 9pm and 6am the following morning. Diversion will be clearly signposted.

  • M5 between Junction 11 – 10: Bridge repairs Narrow lanes will be in place. Work is expected to continue until May 2015.
  • Wiltshire A419 near Swindon: Maintenance From Friday 9 May until Monday 12 May the northbound and southbound carriageways between the Cricklade junction and the Turnpike junction will be closed overnight from 8pm and 6am the following morning.

From Tuesday 13 May until Thursday 15 May the northbound and southbound carriageways between the Lady Lane junction and the A429 junction will be closed overnight from 8pm and 6am the following morning.

On Friday 16 May the northbound and southbound carriageways between the Cricklade junction and the Spine road junction will be closed overnight from 8pm and 6am the following morning. During all the above times diversions will be clearly signposted.

North Somerset

  • M5 between Junction 21 and Junction 22: Barrier improvements Narrow lanes will be in operation on both the northbound and southbound carriageways until early July 2014.

Devon

  • (M5 only) No planned works The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads.

For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks: - Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety.

- Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching.

- Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks.

- Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks.

- Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front.

- Observe all signs – they are there to help you.
