VOLUNTEERS are wanted in South Gloucestershire to help cancer patients.
Macmillan Cancer Support is looking for ‘health champions’ to help spread the cancer awareness message in the district.
All volunteers will be part of Macmillan’s Information and Support team, will receive training and will be asked to be available for two to four hours a week.
Suzanne Rigby-Jones, Macmillan volunteering project manager, said the drive comes as the charity has discovered few people access information about cancer.
“We need to help more people across South Gloucestershire access cancer information and support,” she said.
“We’ve found that few members of this community are accessing cancer information, which is key in encouraging early diagnosis and prevention. “We hope that these volunteers will be able to reach more people by running information stands in local libraries in order to signpost to support and raise awareness of issues surrounding cancer.”
Anyone who wishes to help should be confident in speaking to members of the public and ideally have a knowledge of or willingness to learn about issues surrounding cancer.
