THE VOTES are in and a range of new councillors are set to represent wards in the area on Stroud District Council.
Labour will be rejoicing after gaining three seats today, making them have 20 seats in total on the council.
Dursley became a Labour seat with Colin Fryer taking the majority of votes, as current incumbent and Lib Dem Brian Marsh sank to third.
The surprise swing was the Conservatives taking the previous Lib Dem stronghold of Wotton-under-Edge.
However it means the Conservatives cannot gain control of the administration as they remain four short of the majority needed (26).
It is likely Labour will enter another rainbow alliance with Greens and the Liberal Democrats for the next term.
While they gained significant share of the vote, UKIP did not gain any seats.
All the results and how many votes each candidate are available on the Gazette website.
See next week’s Gazette for the full round up.
