TWO days of live music is coming to Iron Acton, this year two weeks earlier than normal.

Music in the Meadows featuring the second annual Mash in the Meadow and the popular Proms in the Meadow will take place on Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28, instead of the second week in July.

The popular concerts, which both sold out last year, have been moved to coincide with Armed Forces Day on June 28.

Both are being organised by the village’s charitable group Acton Aid which raises money for the community.

Peter Huish, from the committee, said: “Gate profits will go to benefit the local community including the schools the elderly and anyone in need.

“A bucket collection will be held at the Proms for the Royal British Legion.”

The Mash, launched in 2013 as an alternative to the traditional proms evening, on June 27 will include folk, blues, rock, soul and funk music.

Last year’s popular performers Flash Harry and Lizzie Deane will be welcomed back to the stage, in a field in the village, along with Soul Source as and newcomers to the event Slapface and the Hoagies and Trevor Moss and Hannah-Lou.

Then on Saturday, a patriotic evening of classical music at the 11th annual Proms in the Meadows will commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of World War One.

The concert will feature the Bristol Millennium Orchestra, Iron Acton Community Choir, Bristol Pipes and Drums as well as a traditional finale and fireworks display.

Mr Huish said: “The Mash features four top music acts covering a range of musical genres with foot stomping good music to put a smile on your face, sweat on your brow and stomp in your feet.

“Then the Proms will recognse all those who have served in the Armed Forces since WW1 with military-themed music and entertainment including songs from the trenches.

“Bring your picnics, drinks, chairs and of course your Union Jacks and be prepared to sing along to Land of Hope and Glory with our fabulous Soprano Juliet Curnow making a guest appearance.”

He added: “Both events sold out last year so please make sure you buy your tickets well in advance.”

Tickets for both events are available at www.ironactonvillage.info or from the Lamb Inn, Iron Acton.
