CHIPPING Sodbury’s first public defibrillator is now available for use.
The life-saving piece of equipment has been mounted on a wall outside the town’s police station, on High Street, to be used to help anyone suffering a cardiac arrest.
It can be opened with a special code which call handlers for the ambulance service can distribute in the event of an emergency call.
The defibrillator has been paid for by Old Sodbury property agent David James and will be monitored by Sodbury Town Council. It also contains a razor and flannel to prepare a patient for treatment.
Clerk Cate Davidson said: “It is really easy to use. You literally have to press an on button and it tells you what to do.
“We are arranging a drop-in training session but the idea is you can use it if you think someone is having a heart attack. It won’t hurt anyone because if they aren’t having a heart attack it won’t shock them."
The council is circulating a letter of instructions throughout the town and a training session takes place on Thursday, June 26 (5pm and 7pm) at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall. All are welcome to attend this free session.
