FAMILIES from across the area have descended on Cam's playing fields to enjoy a day of football, games and some smart new football kits.

Despite a torrential downpour less than an hour before the start of Cam Everside Youth Football Club’s fun day, over 100 children turned up to take part in the annual fundraiser.

As well as several friendly football matches, there were inflatable games, facepainting, a barbecue and even several rounds of tug of war.

The youth teams, which range in age from under six to under 16 teams, were able to show off next season’s kits, with some sponsored by Millwood petrol station and the Spar shop in Cam.

Ken Eades Machine Tools Limited also made a generous contribution by purchasing a new set of shirts for the under nines.

The event on Sunday, June 8 made over £1,500 for the club and will be used to purchase some permanent nine-a -side goals for the five teams that will be playing that format of the game next season.

With next season seeing Cam Everside Youth FC having teams of all ages play and running games for over 200 children every week, chairman Andrew Colliver is keen to push forward with plans to improve the club's facilities.

“With the support of Cam Parish Council, the facilities at Jubilee Playing Fields continue to be improved, with changing rooms set to be replaced in the near future and the club are set to apply to the FA for its Charter Standard by the start of the new season.”
