EASTER Compton was filled with smiling faces as the sun shone on the village’s nursery rhyme-themed carnival.

The Easter Compton Carnival was held on Saturday, June 14, and included an action-packed procession, musical performances and lots of fancy dress.

Chairman of the carnival committee Phil Archer said it had been a fantastic day which had raised valuable funds for the locality.

All proceeds from the festival go to the Easter Compton village hall fund, paying for general repairs and upkeep and the provision of local toddler groups and community amenities.

“Every penny raised goes towards the village hall and it looks like we’ve raised a substantial amount,” said Mr Archer. “We haven’t got a final sum yet but it looks like a record amount.”

The sun shone down on revellers as they enjoyed all the fun of the fair.

Mr Archer told the Gazette there had been a fantastic turnout.

“People were still in the field after 5pm when we were starting to clear up,” he laughed. “It was such a fantastic day. There were lots of smiles and lots of happy people.”

This year the parade took the theme of nursery rhymes and the accompanying scarecrow trail around the area featured characters from favourite nursery tales.

Mr Archer and his co-chairman Sarah Smith are standing down this year after two years at the helm of the carnival committee.

The committee plans to hold a meeting in the village hall on Friday, July 4 to discuss this year’s event, decide on new organisers and get started planning next year’s event.
