A 33-YEAR-old man from Yate has appeared before magistrates charged with murder.

Ryan Guest, of Birkdale, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address at North Avon Magistrates’ Court in Yate this morning (June 20).

He was charged with the murder of 87-year-old Una Dorney, a resident of Oaktree Care Home in Lark Rise, Brimsham Park, Yate on Wednesday (June 18).

Unshaven and wearing black trousers and a blue polo shirt with white stripes, he was brought from custody after being charged by police earlier today.

Defending, Richard Nile said there was no application for bail and the case was transferred to Bristol Crown Court where Guest will appear on Monday (June 23). A plea and case management hearing was set for September 26.

Magistrate Roger Whitt told the defendant: “You are being sent to crown court in Bristol on the charge of murder.

“You will appear there on Monday and at a plea and case management hearing on September 26.

“In the meantime you will be remanded in custody.”
