STAFF at a Yate opticians got into the spirit of Armed Forces Day on Saturday by dressing up in 1940s costumes.

The team at Specsavers, in Yate Shopping Centre, donned military uniforms and land girl outfits as the store held a themed fun day to celebrate the national event and raise money for Blind Veterans UK.

They raised a total of £135 by selling cream sodas and ginger beers made in an old fashioned soda pop machine outside the store, as well as traditional homemade cakes and poppy seeds.

Store director Jane Morgan said: "It’s great to be able to get involved in Armed Forces Day, as it captures the hearts of our customers and brings the community together.

“All of the money we made on the day is going to Blind Veterans UK. We are very proud to be supporting our veterans after all they have done for our country.”
