PUPILS in their final year at Hillesley Primary School have said farewell with a service at Gloucester Cathedral.

There are six children at the small Church of England school on Kilcot Road who will be leaving in two weeks time and who had a big send off at the cathedral, with parents watching on.

The leavers’ service is held every year at the cathedral, and this year it was about celebration and thanksgiving, entitled A Heart for Service and included pupils from around Gloucestershire.

The children had to learn songs especially for the event and money raised from collections were donated to the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes as the service was linked to the centenary of the First World War (WW1).

There will be a final leavers’ service at St Giles’ Church in Hillesley at 2pm on Friday, July 18, to which friends and families of past, present and prospective children are invited.
