OVER 400 people visited the lawns of Berkeley Castle to hear live jazz music hosted by Berkeley Primary School.

Park Row 5 and Jazz to Go entertained the audience with timeless jazz anthems as families from across the area enjoyed picnics while soaking up the sun.

The Salutation Inn from Ham were on hand to supply various drinks and there was an opportunity to snap up some prizes including a champagne balloon flight worth £1,000, a day at Cheltenham Races, all auctioned by chairman of the school governors, Nathan Wolstenholme.

This successful event on Sunday, June 22 drew on an audience from as far away as Cheltenham and Tetbury and raised £6,000 in total.

Headteacher Deborah Marklove said the event would not have been possible without the vision, commitment and hard work of volunteers who worked tirelessly to support the school.

“Every child in the school will benefit from the hard work, commitment and can do attitude of a small group of people.

“We are very fortunate to have such special people within our community.”

The following weekend, the school held their annual summer fair, sponsored by Stevenson Building Contractors and supported by parents and carers of the children.

Visitors could enjoy music, stalls, games and gifts and, while the full amount is not yet known, the money made from the day will go towards providing the children with new laptops.
