A GREAT amount of money was raised for Help for Heroes by a, no longer long-haired, Thornbury man.

Craig Walters who had grown his hair for a year in order to raise funds for the charity finally shaved it all off – a year to the day after the challenge began.

With money still coming in Craig has raised a fantastic £2,229.66 for the charity which helps current and former military personnel.

Craig, who lives in Streamleaze, Thornbury, decided to embark on his hair-growing charity mission after a pub discussion with a group of friends.

It was suggested that Craig, who had been bald for 15 years, should grow his hair for a year without being allowed to trim or style it.

A contract was drawn up and a few friends decided to sponsor Craig for every month he continued to grow his hair.

The 34-year-old said: "It’s my contribution to a great cause and for people that deserve as much support as possible for what they do for our country"

"I'm not sure who will be more relieved to see the hair gone - me or my wife?"

What has made this even more important is Craig’s wife is expecting their first child which is due Saturday, August 23.

Craig’s wife, Ronnie, who is 31, said: "Craig is easily talked into doing silly things and as much as Craig's appearance has dramatically changed over the last year (and not for the better!) I am still very proud of him for taking on this challenge for such a great cause.

“I never imagined he would have raised so much money which is fantastic.”

Craig has a just giving page which is www.justgiving.com/craig-walters2
