A FEMALE driver was helped free by firefighters after her car was in collision with an HGV in Yate.

The woman, in her twenties, was trapped in her Ford Ka following the incident at the junction of Greenways Road with Goose Green Way this morning.

Two fire crews from Yate Fire Station and one from Avonmouth attended the scene, at the junction with Wellington Road, just after 9am.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Stephanie Mounsey said: “Two vehicles were involved, an HGV and a Ford Ka.

“The driver of the HGV was fine and did not have any injuries.

“Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to create more room in the Ford Ka, they did not take the roof off but made more space to help get the woman in the vehicle out. She was assisted on to a spinal board.”

The woman was taken to Southmead Hospital with neck injuries.

Fire crews, police and paramedics were called to the scene.

There was traffic congestion in the area this morning as a result of the incident. It is understood the road is now fully open.
