A HOME for people with learning difficulties in Yate is holding a summer fete later this month.

Susan Hampshire House, on Station Road, is hosting the fundraising event on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25 (2-5pm) and is inviting the community to come along.

There will be homemade cakes on offer, stalls to shop at, a barbecue, stocks to soak the staff in and a raffle with prizes including a family ticket to Legoland.

Organiser and fundraiser for the home, Jade Wilkins, said the fete would help open up the little known house to the rest of Yate.

“I have done fundraising for the house for a few years and we feel we need to open it to the community,” she said.

“We had an event a few years ago where Steve Webb MP took a soaking in our stocks and we plan on trying to get someone else in them this time including our new manager.

“We have recently got the service users involved and we are starting to do more fundraising for other charities. Last year we raised over £700 for Macmillian Cancer Support and we plan to do a party aid of St Peter’s Hospice early next year.”

She added: “This event will help fund clients’ holidays and day trips as well as touch screen computers.”
