AN OVERTURNED coach on the M5 in Gloucestershire has led to the air ambulance being sent to the scene.

A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said they were called shortly after 10am after a southbound coach left the M5, overturned and landed in a ditch.

"In total 54 people of various ages were on board including the driver. Seven passengers have received minor injuries, not believed to be life threatening or life changing, and the driver has a suspected back injury, but is conscious," he said.

"Transport is being laid on to convey the passengers from the scene. Ambulances were called to the scene to treat injured passengers.

"The coach is registered to Stourbridge and was travelling to Weston-super-Mare."

Highways Agency have closed the southbound carriageway of the M5 at J13. It is unclear how long it will remain closed.

"The public are asked to bear with Gloucestershire Police who are receiving multiple calls about this incident," he added.

"Witnesses or others with information about the incident are asked to postpone calls till later today, on 101, quoting Incident Number 92 of 19 August."

Police on the scene told the Gazette the child had fractured their leg.

The southbound carriageway has been closed at J13, with the overturned coach and air ambulance in the road between J13 A419 (Stroud) and J14 B4509 (Thornbury / Falfield).

Congestion is building up to J12 B4008 (Quedgeley/Hardwicke).

Currently-trapped traffic is being filtered past the scene.

A South West Ambulance Service spokesman said the accident happened just before 10am this morning.

"There were six casualties, all with minor injuries," he said.

"One child and five adults have been injured.

"The child was taken to Bristol Children's Hospital and the five adults have been taken to Southmead Hospital."
