A FAMILY-run business based in Thornbury has had yet more success after receiving a prestigious award for its gin.

Bramley and Gage Ltd have won numerous awards in the past for their drinks and their 6 O’clock gin has proven itself particularly popular.

The gin received a three star award at the Great Taste awards – the highest award possible in the competition.

Out of over 10,000 products entered into the competition this year, just 153 were given a three star award by judges.

The judges, made up of food producers, sellers and experts carry out blind taste tests on products from all over the country and decide on the level of award that a product should be given.

Their 6 O’clock gin won an award in the first ever year in which alcohol was allowed to be entered in to the competition –in 2005.

Felicity Hall, who co-owns the business alongside her brother Michael, after taking it over from their parents in 2007 said:

“Winning this award is a rubber stamp of approval and for our gin to consistently be winning awards after so many years gives people a reassurance that our product is and always has been super quality.

“The three star award is a way of allowing the product to see that it’s super premium and we’ve not just won an award once and forgotten about it, for it to be winning awards almost 10 years down the line shows that it’s always been good.”

This is the third award their gin has received this year as it was also given a Gold Award at the Taste of the West Awards and a Gold Medal in the Gin Masters competition.

An awards ceremony, to which all three star winners are invited, will be held on Monday, September 8 when an overall winner will be chosen.
