A MAN has been arrested after a three and a half hour standoff with armed police in Dursley.

The 39-year-old man had called the police control room at 4am this morning and made what the police called “graphic” threats to the police and himself and claimed he had a weapon.

Gloucestershire Police responded by sending armed police and a number of police cars to a block of flats on Victoria Close in the town and residents were evacuated.

They cordoned off Long Street and Lister Street to the public while negotiations took place.

The man eventually surrendered from the block of flats he was in and was taken to an undisclosed police station.
