FOREST Green striker Danny Wright has penned a deal at Gatsehead after reaching an agreement to leave the New Lawn.

Wright signed a two-year deal with Rovers in May 2013 after joining as a free agent from Wrexham, but has fallen down the pecking order with the arrival of Lee Hughes and Jon Parkin, and has failed to make an appearance this season.

Wright went on a gluten-free diet during pre-season but  failed to break into Ady Pennock's new-look side.

Wright said:"It's been a frustrating time for me, because I worked hard in pre-season and it was disappointing not to play for Forest Green."

Wright will negate the loss of Gateshead forward Marcus Maddison, who  has signed for League One club Peterborough United.

The 29-year-old made a goalscoring debut in Forest Green’s 8-0 thrashing of Hyde FC at the beginning of last season and went on to play 40 league games for Rovers scoring eight times.

Wright started his career at Histon FC, helping the part-timers rise through the leagues while continuing to work as a carpenter, and hit the net 15 times in his first season in the Conference Premier, while memorably scoring the winner in an FA Cup upset over Swindon.

He switched to local rivals Cambridge United for the 2010/11 season, scoring 10 times, before a two-year stint at Wrexham brought another 24 goals.
