A PRODUCE show saw a village hall filled with seasonal produce and imaginative arts and crafts.

Coaley Produce Show was held on Saturday, September 6, and received 550 entries from nearly 70 villagers.

The newly refurbished village hall was shown to many for the first time with improved kitchen facilities and new tables.

It was a good year for vegetables at this year’s show, with a bumper numbers of runner beans and onions making an appearance.

Vegetables, however, weren’t the only thing on offer, and flowers and fruit were also plentiful. One of the more prominent floral arrangements was entitled World Cup Winners.

Arts and crafts on the day included knitted animals, paintings, metalwork, woodwork and origami.

There was also a range of photographs being shown with themes of "Panorama", "Mist", "On the Beach" and "A Letter of the Alphabet".

The cookery offered a mixture of old favourites from apple crumble slices and macaroons to more exotic baking such as Baklava.

There were fewer children's entries this year but younger children made some pictures featuring handprints, bark rubbings and cornflake cakes.

Florrie Curson won two cups and the trophy for the highest number of points.
