A YATE pub was joined at its reopening by Thornbury and Yate MP Steve Webb.

He visited the Codrington Arms in Yate as they celebrated the finish of a significant investment programme of about £70,000 at the site.

The licensees, Paul Jefferies and Jenna Hale, gave Mr Webb a tour of the premises and they also invited the MP to pour a pint behind the bar.

The MP said: “Pubs such as the Codrington Arms are an important part of our local community and I welcome the money that has been put in to improving the premises.

“I was also very interested to hear of the growing number of people combining a visit to the Codrington Arms with a game of boules, and I hope that the courts will be well used.”

Licensee Ms Hale was also excited by the opening.

“The re-launch has been a huge success, it’s been busy and we have received positive feedback from a lot of customers,” she said.

“The local residents seem to love everything about the new look and feel, with many commentating that it feels very welcoming.”

Also in attendance on the evening was town mayor Wully Perks who welcomed the crowd and got the evening underway with a speech.

Cllr Perks was then invited to pour a pint of Reverend James and then joked that whilst he could not oversee baptisms and weddings, he was of course able to conduct funerals.
