TWO grandparents are to brave a skydive next month to raise money for an £8,000 wheelchair for their disabled granddaughter.

Tim Parsons and Tracy Griffiths, of Cam, will complete the charity skydive on Sunday, November 2 between Cirencester and Swindon.

The pair are completing the challenge to raise money for a wheelchair for their granddaughter, seven-year-old Bailey Griffiths, that will give her more freedom and independence.

Bailey has cerebral palsy, a permanent condition that restricts movement and can vary in severity.

After hearing about the need for a new wheelchair, Mr Parsons, 51, began looking into ways of raising money in August this year. Having once done a bungee jump, he decided to take it up a level and arrange a slightly larger leap.

All the money raised from the feat will go towards a new hi-tech wheelchair costing a total of £8,000. The chair is adjustable, meaning Bailey will be able to vary its height and movement, allowing her to complete a range of tasks she is currently unable to perform.

It will also provide relief for her parents, Nick and Laura Griffiths, who are finding it increasingly difficult to help Bailey as she gets older.

Mr Parsons said: “The wheelchair will give Bailey a better quality of life. She’ll be able to do things for herself like go to the toilet, wash or sit at the table.

“It will save the parents a lot of work and help give Bailey more independence. I’m looking forward to the skydive but at the end of the day it’s all for her.”

The pair have so far raised over £1,000, and the Dursley Lions have agreed to equal all donations made to Tracy Griffiths.

Mr Parsons continued: “Hopefully there are people who may have disabled children themselves or in their family who understand what it’s like.

“We would be very grateful to anybody who wants to donate some money to give this little girl a better quality of life.”

If you would like to make a donation towards Bailey’s wheelchair, drop into J Broomhall Ltd, the butchers in Parsonage Street, Dursley, and ask for Tracy.
