A NEIGHBOURHOOD policing team has won an award in this year’s Neighbourhood Policing Awards.

The Thornbury team won the award for the best neighbourhood policing team in the North East of Avon and Somerset’s coverage area.

PC Natalie Draper, based at Thornbury, also saw her hard work recognised as she was awarded with the Neighbourhood Beat Manager of the Year prize.

Police and crime commissioner Sue Mountstevens, who was part of the judging team, said: “The calibre of this year’s nominations was exceptional and reading each and every one of them it is clear to see the difference you are making to your communities.

“Comments such as ‘this officer’s passion and dedication to making the neighbourhood a safer place for all is unfailing’ just shows the value and appreciation of our officers, staff and volunteers by local people.

“I would like to congratulate everyone who was nominated for this year’s awards. You all should feel proud of your achievements and take comfort from the fact that this does not go unnoticed amongst the communities you serve.”

Acting chief constable, John Long said: “Once again the standard of nominations this year has been superb. Reading through the submissions I have felt a great sense of pride at all the hard work our officers and staff are doing day in, day out to keep our communities safe and feeling safe.

“From reading the citations it is clear the winners have had a real impact on their communities and have made a significant difference to the lives of those they serve; they truly deserve this recognition.

“A huge congratulations must go to everyone who has been nominated in this year’s awards; with more than 300 nominations being received in total it’s testament to the hard work and commitment shown by all of our neighbourhood and response teams, specials and volunteers in Avon and Somerset. I am truly grateful for all of your continued support and hard work.”
