POPPY collectors will be in a Dursley supermarket from the start of November to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.

The collection will take place at Sainsbury’s, in Castle Street, Dursley, from November 1 to 8.

This year marks the centenary of the First World War and Sainsbury’s 20th year of support for the Royal British Legion.

There will be poppy inspired products on sale in store including two exclusive jute bags designed by British fashion designer Amanda Wakeley.

Last year’s fundraising saw customers help the supermarket raise a total of £4.5 million for the Legion.

Store manager Nick Langridge said: “The Dursley community has been so supportive in the past. I’d like to thank our customers for their kind donations so far and we look forward to all the activity we have planned to support this fantastic cause.”

After Armistice Day customers can recycle their poppies in-store. A recycling collection point will be available at the customer service desk from November 12 to 24.

All collected poppies will go back to The Royal British Legion to either help make new poppies or generate more funds.
