A TREE of remembrance has been created by a Yate charity shop to raise money for the annual Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The tree has been placed in one of the windows of the SYPHA - Southwold Young People’s Housing Association - shop in Cranleigh Court Road and is attracting a number of donations.

Shop manager Mandy Osborne said people were asked to give at least £1 for the appeal.

In return they can write a name or a short message of remembrance on a card, which will then be hung on the tree.

Mandy said: "In our other window we have done a fantastic display incorporating poems of remembrance around the frame of the window for people to read.

"I've been here for 14 years and we always do something for the appeal.

"People are keen to contribute, including children. Some of them are too young to write their own messages so I do it for them but it's lovely to see them getting involved."
