EIGHT Hawkesbury Upton residents have completed a book of village memories.

The book, entitled “A Monument to Hawkesbury – The Way we Were”, will be launched early next month.

The group, known as the Hawkesbury Writers, have published two previous novels about life in their village.

The third and most recent book in the trilogy covers the years from 1950 to 2000 and the changes, both in the village and nationwide, that occurred during that time.

The writers have said: “The need to record these memories becomes more apparent as the years progress and many village voices and their stories are lost forever.”

The book covers the great snows of 1963 and 1981, changes in working patterns and farming, the village’s sporting achievements and many other stories and photographs of interest to the community.

The book launch will take place in Hawkesbury Upton Village Hall on Saturday, December 6, from 12pm to 2pm, and the books will be on sale after that date at The Hawkesbury Shop and the Post Office, at a cost of £5.

All profits go to village ventures and organisations.
